Course Description
The SSI Divemaster Specialty Course focuses on practical skills, adding more knowledge, skills and experience through the course and leading dives, developing you/you into a well-prepared and versatile dive professional who can safely lead qualified divers to explore the marine world and share your love of diving and the underwater world with others.The SSI Divemaster Specialty Course is the first step into the SSI leadership level. The SSI Divemaster Specialty Course is the first step in the SSI leadership program. You will need to be able to ask questions during the course, take an active role in the training process, develop confidence and competence, and gradually develop into a competent and professional dive leader as you move towards an exciting career. Becoming an SSI Certified Dive Mentor Dive Guide program is the first step in an exciting journey. Learn how to safely lead certified divers in a variety of environments and conditions. By providing dive briefings, conducting on-site evaluations and leading dives, you will soon become a confident dive guide. Start your diving career as a professional dive guide or go on to earn your Divemaster certification.

PREREQUISITES
- You must be at least 15 years of age, and under 18 years of age you must have a signed consent from your guardian. To become an active Professional Dive Guide, you must be at least 18 years old.
- Must log 40 or more open water dives with a cumulative dive time of 25 hours or more.
- Hold an SSI Certified Diver Stress and Rescue Specialty, or equivalent certification from another SSI-accredited educational institution.
- Possess SSI certification in Deep Diving / Navigation / Night Diving & Low Visibility Diving / Nitrox, or equivalent certification from another SSI-accredited educational institution, or demonstrate proof of experience in these four specialties with a minimum of five recorded dives.

Certification Requirements
- Complete a minimum of 50 open water dives with a total dive time of 32 hours or more.
- Completes and passes the SSI Training Standards Specification Leadership Level Professional Waterborne Assessment.
- Complete and pass all requirements and assessments listed in the SSI Dive Guide Training Manual.
- Completion of the SSI Dive Guide Final Exam, 50 multiple choice questions, total score 100, passing score 90. If you do not achieve a passing score, you may retake the test at a later date.
Waterborne Evaluation
- Tread water continuously for 15 minutes without any assistance or floatation gear.
- Surface Swimming (optional): Swim 700 meters continuously without stopping for 20 minutes using a mask, flippers and snorkel. If a rashguard is used, weights must be added to ensure neutral buoyancy. Swim 375 meters continuously without the use of masks, fins, snorkel and other swimming aids.
- Dive 25 meters underwater with a mask, flippers and snorkel.
- To perform a complete surface rescue tow, 100 meters in 8 minutes, both the rescuer and the rescued person must wear a full range of diving systems.
Dive Guide Requirements and Evaluation
- Completion of the pre-dive briefing assessment with a total score of 48 and a minimum passing score of 32.
- Complete the Dive Guide Assessment with a total score of 45 with a minimum passing score of 30.
Issuance of visas
- Upon completion of the course, you will be certified as an SSI Dive Guide Specialist.
- To be certified as an SSI Professional Dive Guide, you must submit the Dive Guide Course Training Record and all necessary documents to the SSI Taiwan Service Center and pay the SSI Professional Registration Fee of NT$5,760 in order to be certified as an SSI Professional Dive Guide.
Pre-Course Notes
- Before registration, please confirm your health condition and that you do not have any high-risk diseases related to diving. If you are over 50 years old, please have a full body health checkup and consult a doctor to confirm that you can participate in recreational diving activities before applying for registration, and please provide a copy of your health checkup when you apply.
- The balance of the course fee should be paid at the time of registration.
- 7 days advance notice is required for any change in class schedule, and an additional NTD$3,000 will be charged for any change within 7 days or unexplained absence. In case of absence due to ill-health, a hospital receipt will be required to waive the extra charge.
- The deposit fee cannot be refunded as it has been used to purchase the online course materials after the registration process is completed.
- Please bring your own light suit, heavy suit, dive computer watch, SMB, and spools for pool & ocean training. If you need to rent the equipment, please inform the training center in advance so that you can prepare in advance. During the training period, the trainee will be responsible for keeping the rental equipment and return it after the course. Any damage or loss will be compensated according to the original price of the equipment, so please use it with care.
- Late arrivals and early departures during training will seriously affect the progress of the course and create an additional teaching load, so please make sure you are on time for class.
- Before completing the training course, new trainees are required to upload a headshot or life photo file to their SSI personal account, which will be used for their scuba diving license. Once the trainee has completed the training and has all the related documents, the dive center will proceed with the SSI Specialty DG license application as soon as possible. Once approved by SSI Taiwan Regional Service Center, the student can get the online license. If a physical license is required, NTD$200 per card will be charged for printing the physical license card, and the training center will obtain it within two weeks and notify the trainee to pick it up.
- Under the premise of non-commercial behavior, Non-Professional Dive Guides can independently lead a group of certified divers to dive in the same environment as the training level. SSI Professional Dive Guides are SSI Leaders and are required to pay an annual renewal fee in order to be eligible for active status.
- Qualify for active status as an SSI Professional Dive Guide to: teach, supervise, and certify award cards for SSI snorkeling courses; qualify for the SSI Divemaster level upon completion of the SSI Diving Science Specialty course.
